Citrus Cake w/ Candied Oranges
Citrus cake with orange zest is refreshing and delicious but add some fresh homemade orange syrup with fresh candied oranges and you've really got an exceptional cake.
Orangettes
Orangettes are a perfect, simple homage to the combination of orange and chocolate. This recipe is designed to create candied orange zest that is delightfully chewy on the inside, with chocolate the snaps between the teeth on the outside. Use a high-quality chocolate of no more than 61% cocoa solids; higher percentages can be difficult to use for dipping. I like to simmer a cinnamon stick in the simple syrup to impart a hit of cinnamon. It's not mandatory, but highly recommended.
Fresh Lemon Syrup
Whether you're juicing standard supermarket lemons or their seasonal Meyer cousins, save the rinds for this vibrant yellow syrup. It's pure sunshine in a bottle, made from nothing but sugar dissolved by the acidic pulp—no cooking required! Since there's no added juice, it tastes more sweet than sour, but is balanced by the subtle bitterness of lemon oil.
Mandarin Lemon Verbena Marmalade with Campari
Campari lends a bitter touch to a fresh marmalade made from seasonal Mandarin oranges and a touch of lemon verbena.
Crispy Citrus-Candied Pistachios
This recipe takes advantage of our Fresh Lemon Syrup, which doesn't contain any added water or juice, helping the pistachios toast up extra crisp and crunchy. The syrup's subtle acidity brightens the darker notes of the roasted nuts and caramelized sugar, keeping the overall flavor fresh and light, perfect for sprinkling over spring salads and fruity desserts, or just snacking out of hand.
Lemon Ice Cream
Sweet and tart, light and creamy, more than a little like lemon meringue pie. If you've only ever had lemon sorbet, give lemon ice cream a chance.
DIY Orange Bitters
Just a drop or two of orange bitters can add the right depth to your cocktail or bridge together ingredients that aren't quite living up to their mixological potential. Deep, citrusy, spicy, complex orange bitters are an essential part of so many balanced cocktails.
DIY Orange Soda
DIY orange soda delivers the same satisfying combination of sweet and tart you get from the commercial version, but mixed in with the familiar sharpness and prickly joy of orange soda is a new and exciting flavor: that of real oranges.
Caramelized Orange Cheesecake Recipe | Cook the Book
Super creamy with a great graham crust, lightly orangey filling, and an almost stained glass-like caramelized orange topping, this cheesecake is as good to look at as it is to eat.
Rosemary Lemonade Cake
I developed this recipe for folks who can't seem to get enough lemon. The addition candied lemon zest lends some texture and gives the cake a beautiful appearance. I've added rosemary to highlight the tangy flavor of the citrus, but you may substitute chopped thyme if you prefer. The cake is finished with a "lemonade" soaker, which gives it tang and keeps it very moist.
Candied citrus zest makes a lovely garnish for summer desserts. It also makes a damn fine addition to summer cocktails, and is the secret ingredient in my rosemary lemonade cake.

Vin d'Orange Recipe | Cook the Book
This recipe for Vin d'Orange from Put 'em Up! by Sherri Brooks Vinton is an ideal introduction to the world of home infusions. For those of you familiar with Lillet, that lightly sweet, elegantly orange flavored French apertif, this is a do-it-yourself approximation. White wine is mixed with pieces of whole orange (including the skin and pith for a pleasant bitterness), vanilla bean, cinnamon, and a mix of vodka and sugar for sweetness and shelf life.
Pamplemousse Cooler (Vodka-Cucumber Cocktail With Grapefruit LaCroix)
You'll be cool as a cucumber sipping this vodka drink, which gets a delicate vegetal flavor from muddled cucumber and a soft sweetness from elderflower liqueur.
Wake-Up Call: Blood Orange Citrus Cooler
While oranges, grapefruit, lemons, and limes can be found year round, the really interesting citrus—tangerines, tangelos and blood oranges—are at their very best right now. This citrus mix is bright and sunny, and honey softens the tartness from the blood orange juice while adding a distinct floral note.

Tangerine and Fennel Vinaigrette
Most produce is a sad sight during the winter, except for citrus. We whipped up this tangerine vinaigrette to celebrate one of the few fruits that's best this time of year. It's delicious on salads, or as a sauce for roasted or grilled fish, pork, or chicken.
Drinking in Season: Blood Orange Daiquiri
Looking for a little pick-me-up after the holidays, I decided a daiquiri—which is traditionally made with lime juice, rum and sugar—would be the perfect candidate for a little winter experimentation. The blood orange juice gives the cocktail a lovely red hue and brings a bright flavor to the drink.
