Kentucky Corpse Reviver
Perhaps you've had a Corpse Reviver #2, which brings together gin and curaçao, Lillet blanc, and lemon, with a dash of absinthe. Here's a variation from Peels restaurant in NYC that uses bourbon instead of gin, and it's delicious. Pierre Ferrand's dry curaçao is great here, but you could substitute Cointreau if you have it on hand.
The Obituary Cocktail
The Obituary is an intriguing spin on a gin martini, probably getting its morbid name from the inclusion of absinthe (though a pastis like Pernod can be substituted). The result is a completely new drink; the introduction of an anise-y flavor highlights the aromatics already present in both gin and vermouth.
Green Ghost
This tasty drink highlights the Chartreuse and will impress anyone who likes a pretty drink because unlike many pretty drinks, this one has flavor to match its beauty.
Improved Gin Cocktail
Genever and Cointreau: odd, but oh-so-compelling.
Modern Cocktail No. 2
The Modern Cocktail No. 2 shows how wonderfully blended scotch can work in a cocktail. As written in the Savoy Cocktail Book from 1930, the Modern #2 matches the smooth richness of blended scotch with the sharp tang of sloe gin, with dashes of absinthe, grenadine and bitters lending additional complexity.
Quill
This classic twist on a Negroni adds in some absinthe to bring great herbal and light anise flavor that lingers in the background.
Twentieth Century
The Twentieth Century mixes gin with lemon, crème de cacao and the French aperitif wine, Lillet. While the list of ingredients can look discordant--I mean, gin, lemon and chocolate? Really?--the mixture is rich and elegant, much like the train it was named for.
The Two-One-Two
Created by New York bartender and consultant Willy Shine, the Two-One-Two is brilliantly simple, yet has an engagingly complex flavor. Composed of a base of reposado tequila—Partida, one of the better brands to emerge in recent years, is recommended here—the Two-One-Two includes a couple of the agave spirit's most agreeable companions: fresh grapefruit juice, and the Italian amaro Aperol, a bright, bitter liqueur rich with orange peel and rhubarb.
Atty Cocktail
A good gin contains floral elements in its mix of botanical flavors, and the creme de violette nicely calls the floral notes to the fore.
The Pompier
Enter the Pompier. Also known as the vermouth cassis, this tall glass of icy goodness offers a gentle, sophisticated alternative for those looking to idle away a steamy afternoon. Based on vermouth--so it's lower in alcoholic horsepower than many other seasonal refreshers--the Pompier increases its allure with the robust fruitiness of crème de cassis, a blackcurrant liqueur.
Elusive, complex, and perfect for a new generation of craft cocktail fans.

The 'grey stuff' from Beauty and the Beast has been falsely advertised as some sort of cookies-n-cream abomination, and it's about time we set the record straight. Yes I know that children at Disney World probably don't want to eat chicken liver mousse. Yes I know that it's taking whimsical licens
